Urban Autism Solutions

Urban Autism Solutions is dedicated to changing outcomes for young adults with autism and related social and communication challenges through an integrated community life that advances social and vocational opportunities. Project 1212 is the hub for our growing residential community for young adults on the Near West Side of Chicago. Our first home and anchor includes a beautifully renovated Victorian brownstone that features smart TVs, community space, a gourmet kitchen and a growing group of adults with autism and related differences who live here and hang out with us. We offer a variety of supportive living services tailored to meet the needs of the individuals we serve, including 24-hour staff to intermittent supports. UAS partners with a company licensed by the Illinois DHS to accept the Home and Community Based waiver in order to provide enhanced living environments, food and additional program spaces. We are located in a vital urban neighborhood that offers easy access to public transportation and all the cultural, educational and social events a city like Chicago has to offer. Community members of Project 1212 develop schedules related to individual interests and abilities, including employment in the city, classes, volunteer opportunities and may also participate in our signature urban agriculture program, Growing Solution Farm. UAS also offers participation in small, neighborhood micro-businesses. All residents have access to our social network events that include approximately 8 events a month involving dinner outings, themed in-house activities, sporting events, comedy clubs, Chicago explorations, meet-ups at a local restaurant, movie nights and restaurants along with many summer festivals. Our relationships with volunteers, students, graduate students, and teaching faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Rush University Medical Center help us expand our neurodiverse community. We are also proud to partner with graduate programs from Speech and Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy who help us by tapping into graduate students interested in staffing our residential programs. We invite you to learn more about us to determine if you’d like to join our growing community!
