Since 1991, the Horizons School has provided a community-based learning program enabling living and work independence for young adults with specific learning disabilities including autism. Our competent staff guides students to develop, implement and evaluate personal goals, complete prevocational or college training. Students may earn industry-led certification programs or an associate's degree awarded by Jefferson State Community College.
Horizons School leases a block of renovated units in an historic multi-story apartment building conveniently located in Birmingham’s historic 5 Points South community nearby the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Apartments include hardwood floors, stainless appliances, fire safety system, furniture, large closets and lovely city views.
On-site resident assistants provide emergency assistance and regularly plan student life activities. Student tenants freely access nearby shopping, personal services, restaurants and recreation traveling by foot and public transit.
