Mission: Osprey Village, Inc. was formed in July, 2008 as a South Carolina non-profit corporation “to provide affordable housing options for adults with developmental disabilities that foster community inclusion and support achieving independence.”
Goal: to develop a prototype “neighborhood with a purpose,” an “intentional community” that connects our local adults with developmental disabilities and their families with their neighbors. Osprey Village will provide both for-sale and for-rent housing options. Our first phase will include 40 for-sale residences.
Residents: Our primary focus for residents will be adults with diverse levels of intellectual or developmental disabilities; we are planning for up to 140 such residents to live in the neighborhood once it is built out. Other residents may include their families or caregivers. This will promote a supportive environment for all residents to live independently in a wider community. We have not yet started a “waiting list,” but we have been adding interested potential residents to our email communications list.
Neighborhood: Our Osprey Village neighborhood will be located on a 25-acre parcel that was donated to us in the planned East Argent development off Rt. 170 in the City of Hardeeville, SC, near Hilton Head Island. It will be an integral part of the surrounding community, with activities, facilities, training opportunities, and events drawing participants from our nearby neighbors. A roadway back to our parcel was completed in 2020. We are finalizing architectural designs and our land plan; we expect to begin permitting and initial site work by the end of 2023, with construction of the first 40 “for-sale” residences beginning in 2024.
