We are proposing a mixed use development with both long-term rentals and owner occupied homes. The cottages, duplexes, and ADUs would range in size from as small as 650 sq. ft. to no larger than 1000 s.q ft. We would like for this community to be located in New Hanover County, NC within walking distance to public transportation. The community would include a central courtyard with homes facing the interior (pocket community model), a community garden, a shared tool/bike shed made from re-purposed containers, a community building for gatherings, and a detached music studio also made from re-purposed containers. Our vision is to create a community of individuals of diverse ability, age, race, ethnicity and income with a shared commonality that can all live independently within a supportive co-housing community. Our concept of a connected community refers not only to communal space and community activities, but to the implementation of SMART technology throughout the community. SMART technology would be embedded into the homes to assist with independent living, and allow families to keep in touch with their loved ones remotely. This would help provide the additional peace of mind for the parents of the adult children living within the community. Mission: To create a safe, supportive community that promotes interdependent living for adults with Autism and other neurodiversities. Core Values: To promote neurodiversity... We will build intentional social interactions among the community. We will incorporate technology that supports independent living. We will build a sustainable community for residents and the environment for the long term.
