Autism Communities

Autism Communities helps facilitate independent living opportunities for autistic adults ages 20-35 years old on Long Island. This includes studio, one and two bedroom apartments in collaboration with our development partners at apartment complexes in East Islip & Bay Shore, NY. In 2023, Autism Communities will be adding additional housing opportunities through single family homes in Suffolk County, NY. It is the goal of Autism Communities to offer a variety of locations across Long Island in the future. Autism Communities facilitates an innovative person centered housing candidate process which helps people with Autism use their self-directed funds to move into a home of their own. This can include finding a compatible housemate to identifying the right living arrangement. Currently, all housing candidates must be NY State residents utilizing Self Directed Services through NYS OPWDD. In addition to our comprehensive housing candidacy process, we support our residents through our housing liaison, who regularly checks in with residents to ensure their needs are being met. This additional service is provided to our residents at no cost. Additional offerings through AC include our backstop DSP program in collaboration with Stony Brook University & our social and educational program for families, Club AC.
