Cooperative Ownership

A group of people own or control a residential unit (such as a single-family home) or housing development (such as a multiplex) and related community facilities on a democratic basis. Individual residents do not directly own the real estate. Instead, the cooperative housing corporation owns the real estate, and residents buy shares or a membership.
